Experience the Crystal Clear Waters of Bonito on 07/04/10

bonito2

Bonito, Brazil is a popular tourist destination for foreigners and Brazilian alike. The area is famous worldwide for its sparklingly clear rivers, which make a quick swim feel more like a dunk in a fish tank. Visitors can come and experience amazing river diving and snorkeling, filled with exotic and big fish. Scared of the Amazons most notoriously scary fish the piranha, have no fear; this area of the river has none.

In order to experience the stunning waters around Bonito, it is neccesaary to take a tour. All of the rivers run through private land, so as a means of ensuring visitors safety and to protect that natural eco-system all tourists must have a guide. Our top pick tours are:

  1. Rio Sucuri Tour: Perhaps the most popular tour in town, this tour starts only 19km outside of Bonito and offers some English speaking. The company provides you with a buffet lunch, life jacket, snorkel and mask, and a wet suit. Please take note that no insect repellent or sunscreen can be worn in the water in an attempt to keep the area as unaffected as possible.

  2. Estância Mimosa: This is more of a land-based tour, offering visitors a stroll through the forest around the Mimoso River. Along the way, you will pass eight waterfalls, seven of which are suitable to swim in, encounter small caves and lookouts and get the chance to jump off a 6 meter high diving board into a natural watering hole. Other optional tours from this group include horseback riding and bird watching.

  3. Recanto Ecológico Rio da Prata: A bit further out of town, 50 km to be exact is this much less crowed tour. English is spoken and the tour is very well run. Visitors start at a farmhouse, which offers a changing area and gift shop. The company provides you with a snorkel and mask, wet suit and a delicious buffet lunch. Another special aspect of this tour is that it offers you a chance to take about an hour walk through the reserve giving you the opportunity to see more wildlife.
