Playa Santa Teresa has become known the world-over for its amazing surfing and beautiful, secluded beaches. This small beach town is located in Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula, just 150 km west of San Jose.
With pristine white sandy beaches and sweet waves year-round, surfers and beach-lovers alike are flocking to Santa Teresa. You can reach ST by taking a ferry from Paquera or fly into Tambor, then take a bus or taxi the rest of the way.
Santa Teresa has become a hotspot for surfers from all over the world and for all levels of ability. Although the waters are favorable for surfing year-round, the best time to visit is between May and December, also known as the "green season". Seasoned surfers will find swells at their peak during this time; beginners should be extra cautious during this period.
Not a surfer? Don't worry, there is still plenty for you to enjoy in Santa Teresa. You can find plenty of activities to keep you busy from horseback riding, canopy tours, hiking, deep-sea fishing and much more. Take a Spanish class or make a day trip out to Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve or just relax and enjoy the Costa Rican sun! Whatever you decide to do with your time in Santa Teresa, you're sure to never want to leave!
