The islands are one of 46 National Parks in Colombia and were created as a means of protecting some of Colombia's most important coral reefs. It is only a two-hour boat ride from the city and visitors can enjoy the chance to experience world-class diving, swimming, snorkeling and more.
For a more cultural and unique experience, make your way towards Bocachica Island, home to the fort of San Jose. This islands offers nice beaches, as well as the historical site where you can learn about Ancient Cartagena and its many pirate attacks. There are also a number of places to grab a bite to eat or just lazily lay around in a hammock.
If you need white sand to truly feel as though you are in the Caribbean, make way to Playa Blanca, or White Beach. One of the most remote beaches outside of the city, the sands here are absolutely stunning and the coral reef filled waters are spectacular.
