Hi,
I'm coming to Buenos aires Argentina on December, for 3 months.
I wane rent an apartment, as it is cheaper then staying for that long in a hostel.
The thing is, I'm not sure WHERE in Buenos aires.
I have been reading a bunch of travel tips on the web, and got a few "Barrios" in the city that could be the right place, but i'm not sure yet.
I've narrowed it down to Palermo (there is Soho and Viejo, right?!), Belgrano and recoleta (which is a bit more pricey?!).
Maybe i'm wrong, but i got the impression that down town is just noisy and polluted area, and that there is nothing much to do there on a long period stay??
Anyone living there now and can recommend and area?
I'm looking for somewhere with some "action", u know, a colorful place with a younger atmosphere, so i will not have to go far for my "treats" 
I'm from Brooklyn. NY, so to compare – i'm looking for a Williamsburg type of place...

Personally, about NY, i think Park slope is the place to be, but i don't live there no mo'
As for you, Williamsburg you want, Palermo Soho you get.
You got the bars, the pubs, the shopping, the action, the restaurants, the people, everything you wanted and more (god i sound like a Real estate agent...)
I'v lived there for 3 months. 3 weeks in a hostel, and the rest of the time in my own place with a bunch of cool roommates i'v met in the hostel .

I have to agree on that. Palermo is A-W-E-S-O-M-E!! Don't think twice.
But the Soho is INSIDE the Viejo. Palermo Viejo is the barrio, soho is the area around plaza Serrano.
If I'll hear something about an apartment in December, I'll post it.

CENTRO!! Only Centro!
Palermo is all tourists now, no porteno in sight. I remember when i was first time in Buenos aires in 2004, and there was NOTHING in Palermo. But now it's over crowded and beside, it's so pricey for what you get.
You can find huge apartments in the Centro, that cost less then smaller apt. in Palermo.

U can go to hostels and ask in the reception desk, or ask around in the million "inmobiliaria" (real-estate offices) that are all over the place. They are used to tourists and usually have good stuff. If you got the $$ and wane find a real good place fast, sometimes it's the best way to go.
Palermo is a bit pricey, but it's still Buenos Prices, and it's the best barrio in the city.

Stay in Centro, smack in the middle of action! It's a Spanish speaking version of NY.
