renting a car in chile 10-08-2008 à 07:08
Helloooo
Me and my boyfriend are going to Chile for 2 weeks only, and really want to see quite a lot (Santiago, san pedro de atacama, la serena, vina del mar and more.. ). I don't know anyone that's been there, so I'm asking here.
Should we rent a car for that short period? I read that it's a bit pricey over there (not just renting a car. But the whole trip)?
We kind of wane plan out the entire thing in advance as we only got 2 weeks to travel, but i'v been reading so many different advices, that I'm totally confused –
Some say they have Great roads and it's best to rent and drive yourself, others say the publich transportation in chile is amazing, and worth the money.
I hate to drive, but Mitch (my man ) loves it. But I'm also thinking about saving some time and using the night buses so we can have time to see more places. . .

I think I wrote this entire thing too clumsy
Anyway, Help please
Thanks
Sam

Hello Sam
About your trip time – if you are traveling for 2 weeks only, you will need nerves of steel to travel by night (on a night bus) and then travel by day (on feet).
So take it into consideration when planning to see so many spots in Chile. There is a lot to see in that country.
As for busses, I had a good experience with the Chilean busses. first of all, the busses in chile usually run on time. Which is a great thing considering it's south America.
second of all, they are comfortable, and have a "super cama" type of sit, so you can actually sleep pretty well on the ride.
Third of all, it's not expansive. It's a few bucks per hour, maybe 2$ or 3$.

I think you should aim to see less and take it easy. U will enjoy more.
peace

The prices of car renting a decent car in Chile is about 700$ a week with the small extras included.
You can get some Japanese car, and it is pretty comfortable.
Usually, The roads in Chile ARE good, and you could get pretty much anywhere with a regular car.
