Hotel San Roque is a lovely hotel. Its located in the best area and the facilities are great. Loved the cozy rooms, very clean and quiet. We felt really good here and enjoyed Cartagena thanks to all the great information we got in the Roque travel desk. Highly recommended.

Brilliant hostel in a scary location. It's together with lots of other budget hostels so it's location isn't worse than many of the others but the area is dangerous. We've been here during the independence day celebrations so maybe it's a little worse than usual though because people are a bit wilder and there's more drinking. I wouldn't recommend it if you're a single female. Fantastic hostel though. Well equipped kitchen, extremely helpful staff (although they don't speak English). Our room was cleaned - bin emptied, bed made, new towels provided - every day which isn't common in budget South American hostels.

Nice hostel in the media luna strip where there are a plethora of places to choose from, not sure about the others but this seems nice, good room, two fans that are very powerful, clean bed and tv all for about 12 us dollars each. No breakfast but there is a supermarket close and a kitchen to use. Area isnt that bad, we walked around late at night, just dont be stupid flashing cash. My main complaint is that we dont have a window so you could ask for one if you like fresh air and real light in room. Mini hostels mucked up with our booking, the hostel never got the confirmation and the prices were all wrong, mini hostels quoted $40 minus MH discount for the room but it actually ended up being $25 so it might be worth mini hostels checking that! We paid deposit based on higher rate so not sure how we will get money back. Overall though, good value, clean and chilled, a room at the back will mean its quieter for you and the fans block out most noise anyway! About 10 mins walk to old town and closer small restaurants at cheap prices in plaza trinidad a short walk away, a third of the price as in old town and great pizza!

The staff is very nice and welcoming, although speak only Spanish (so you should know a little). The rooms are small, but comfortable and clean. Very basic in terms of a hotel, but the free coffee and wifi were excellent. If you are a couple travelling together, this may be a better bet than many of the hostels.

Friendly and helpful staff; quickly organised a new TV for us when ours broke down. Our double room was a bit small but had ferocious fans to cool us down. We found the local area fine to walk around at night although some others seemed a bit intimidated by local people going about their normal lives.
