Directions

The town of Salasaca is about half an hour by bus, from Ambato on the way to (Pelileo) Banos. Just ask the driver to leave you in Salasaca at the first gas station and then ask a local to point you towards Hostal Runa Huasi or Senor Alonso Pilla. There is also a cooperative of pickup trucks (taxis) to take you to the hostal in Manzamapamba Chico.

This hostel is located next to several sacred places for the Salasaca locales, including Punta Rumy and Diablo Cama. This hostel is a great jumping point for tours in the area and to experience the true history and culture of Ecuador. It offers traditional music shows, weaving and crafting classes and typical food.

More than just a hostel, this is a true cultural experience. The owners are happy to share their music, stories, and typical food with the guests...we even learned how to make traditional Salasacan bracelets. A unique experience.
