When to go:
High season in Paraty is the summer, despite quite high temperatures. The city is warm and pleasant year round though, and even hot temperatures are tempered by cool sea breezes. Afternoon rains are common in the summer as well. If you’re on a budget consider coming a different time of year, when the weather is still nice but prices are lower and less crowds make reservations less necessary.

How to get there:
Luckily for backpackers, the only practical and commonly used means of traveling to Paraty is convenient, comfortable, inexpensive buses from Rio or Sao Paolo. Both locations run several buses daily to and from Paraty.

Dangers:

Visa Information:
US Citizens require a visa in order to enter Brazil. Citizens of Israel, Great Britain, and most EU countries do not require a visa for a stay of up to 90 days. If you are in doubt about whether you require a visa to enter Brazil, check online with your embassy.

Tipping:
At restaurants a service charge of approximately 10% is generally added to the bill. It is always identified that this charge is not obligatory, and any more than this is certainly not expected. Taxi drivers do not expect to be tipped, but fares may be rounded up to the nearest Real so no one has to deal with change.
