* Head into the city center and visit the Obelisco, a 67 meter long Obelisk in the center of Plaza de la Republica.

* Catch a tango show at one of the numerous tango halls and venues in the city ? shows are more expensive and cater to tourists. For something a bit less skilled but far more authentic, visit a milonga, a dance hall where everyday Argentines gather nightly to find partners and dance the night away.

* Visit La Boca, an old fishing neighborhood where houses were painted with the brightly colored leftover paint leftover from painting the boats. A bit of a tourist trap now, but plenty of tango in the streets and good people watching.

* Walk through the parks in Palermo, including the Botanical Gardens and the Japanese Gardens, where you can have a tea ceremony at 5 pm daily.

*Catch a soccer game at the stadium of one of BA?s two most popular teams ? River Plate, in Nunez, red and white, or La Boca, in La Boca, blue and yellow. It?s worth paying extra to see the two teams play each other, but make sure you buy seats and be careful, it?s a rowdy crowd.

Buenos Aires has cold winters and extremely hot, humid summers. The best time to go is in the spring, October and November, or the fall, April and May, when the sun shines and temperatures are warm but nights cool off and the humidity hasn?t yet crept in.

If coming from your home country, you?ll fly into Buenos Aires' Ezeiza Airport and take a cab into the city. Order a cab at one of the taxi stands at the airport, which guarantee their rates, instead of catching a cab at the curb outside the terminal ? these are more dangerous and can easily rip you off. From other cities in South America, it?s easy to catch relatively inexpensive, backpacker-friendly buses into Buenos AIres. Buses are comfortable, and even the cheapest seats are big, cushy, and reclinable, with movie service and food offered for long trips.

Visainformation

Travelers from most countries including the US, UK, Australia, EU citizens, New Zealand, Canada, and Israel do not require a visa to enter Argentina. A 90 day tourist visa will be issued at the airport with a passport. Tourist visas can be renewed for those wishing to stay in Argentina with a quick trip to Uruguay from Buenos Aires. No tourist visa is required of visitors from Israel for stays up to 90 days.

Trinkgeld

At restaurants it is normal to tip 10%. Taxi drivers do not receive tips but the fare may be rounded up to the nearest peso. Porters can receive a tip of a couple of pesos.
