Atrações Principais

Once a sleepy resort town whose main draw was the immaculate surfing, tourists have transformed the city into a mecca of beach parties, surfing, and club hopping - this is the wildest Costa Rica gets.

Jaco is fairly small, and it's easy to see the entire town in one day. But you can also just as easily take your time and spend several days exploring, shopping, going to the beach, surfing, dining out, going to bars, and taking tours in the Jaco area. One popular nearby destination is the Carara Biological Reserve, well known as the nesting ground for the country's scarlet macaws. The reserve also features a number of other wildlife, from armadillos and otters to kinkajous and hundreds of species of tropical birds.

Quando ir

Weather plays an important part in planning a visit to Jacó - there are marked wet and dry seasons along this coast. The rains are from April to December, and you can expect regular precipitation from May to November, with September and October being the rainiest months. Temperatures are fairly moderate year-round, with averages hovering between 31°C (88°F) during the day and a balmy 24°C (75°F) at night.

Como chegar

There are frequent buses going directly from the Coca Cola bus station in San José; itŽs about a 3 hour trip to Puerto Limón.

In addition, travelers are increasingly taking advantage of the jet boat transfer service that connects Jacó to Montezuma. Several boats per day cross the Gulf of Nicoya, and the journey only takes about an hour.

Informação de Vistos

Most travelers do not need a visa to enter the country including those from Canada, U.S., Europe, Australia, the UK, Argentina, Israel, Japan, Panama, South Korea and Uruguay. Visitors can stay for up to 90 days. Note that it may be required to show a return ticket, ticket to another country, or proof of funds to purchase such tickets before being permitted to enter the country.

Gratificação

On guided tours, tip the guide US$1.00 to US$5.00 per person per day, and tip the tour driver about half of what you tip the guide. Naturally, tips depend upon quality of service. Taxi drivers are not normally tipped, unless some special service is provided. Upscale restaurants may add a 10% service charge to the bill. If not, you might leave a small tip to show your appreciation, but it is not required.
