Because of its closeness to Panama City, Penonome is a popular tourist location. What it offers the outdoors lover is perhaps its greatest allure. There are several rivers that converge in Penonome, mountains and beautiful scenery for nature lovers. There are hand crafts sold and a popular Carnival each year, perhaps the most famous in Panama, called the Carnival Aquatic. The Museum of Penonome and the cathedral of St.John Baptist are other popular tourist attractions adding a cultural aspect to an already beautiful city.
When to go
Like most cities that reside on the Pacific side of the Panamanian coast, Penonome sees a very distinct dry season that ranges from mid-December to mid-April. The weather is at its most temperate during this time, which also corresponds to high tourist times as well.
How to get there
Because of its proximity to Panama City most people walk, drive or take a taxi to Penonome from there.
Visa information
Americans and most Europeans do not need a visa upon entering. A tourist card, or temporary visa is granted upon entering although a tourist card (costing U$S 5.00) are required and can be done so in the airport or through customs. These are valid for 90 days. Many countries are required to apply for visas. Be sure to research your country before leaving to avoid problems.
Tipping
Tipping is expected. A standard 10% - 15% is acceptable in restarurants and U$S 1 dollar tips are customary towards hospitality help.
