Atrações Principais

(*)Walk around the city, get lost, and see whatever you want ? though not unusually beautiful, Montevideo is unusually safe, especially for a Latin American capital.

(*)Spend your Sunday morning at La Feria Tristán Narvaja Flea Market, selling everything from clothes to antiques to kitchen supplies to puppies.

(*)Wander down the Rambla roadway as it follows the coast, and enjoy the views of the water and of people biking, fishing, drinking mate, and hanging out. This is especially nice at sunset.

(*)Visit the Sexual Diversity Monument, erected in 2005. It reads "Honouring diversity is honouring life; Montevideo is for the respect of all identities and sexual orientations," and is the first of its kind in South America.

(*)Check out the Ciudad Vieja, Montevideo?s old town, accessible through the portal called Puerta de la Ciudadela.

Quando ir

Montevideo?s climate is mild year-round, making it an ideal place to vacation at any time. Summers (Dec-Feb) are generally warm, though some weeks can get quite hot. Winters experience occasional rain, but temperatures remain in the 50s.

Como chegar

(bus) (boat) (taxi)If arriving in Uruguay from your home country, you will land at the Montevideo Carrasco International Airport, about 15km east of the city center. From there, frequent and cheap buses depart to Terminal Rio Branco, just north of many major sites downtown, or cabs are available ? the price should be little more than 200 pesos. Many travelers arrive in Montevideo from Argentina, either directly off the ferry or off a bus after taking the ferry over to Colonia. The ferry/bus option is cheaper, but obviously takes longer as well.

Informação de Vistos

Visitors from the US, Israel, Australia, and most European countries do not require a visa to enter Uruguay. A 90 day tourist visa will be stamped in your passport upon entering the country.

Gratificação

Servers at restaurants generally receive tips of 5-10%. For taxis simply round up the bill to the nearest peso. Hotel porters receive about US$1 per bag.
