wine tour designated driver 2008/01/04 14:50
Hey minihostellers

My travelmate and I are hoping to go to Mendoza sometime in March and would love to rent a car and drive around doing wine tours . . . but we love wine and hate drunk driving. Is anyone interested in going to Mendoza around that time for . . . the sightseeing who would be down to designated drive us? Let me know!

You might be better off by staying in a Mendoza hostel and purchasing an all inclusive winery tour when you're in Mendaoza...

The tour packages are expensive, even when you buy them in Mendoza . . . but what my friend and I did is rent bikes in Maipu and biked around to the different wineries . . . it worked great but I have a few recommendations . . .

1. Take your bike for a mini test run before you get too far from the rental place- a lot of them are in bad condition and you dont want to be 5 miles out when a tire pops or your chain goes. If something feels a little unsteady, switch bikes.

2. Bike as far out on Urquiza as you can at the beginning. Then stop at all the winieries on your way BACK. That way by the time you start feeling pretty tipsy youll already be almost done, instead of being all drunk and having to bike aaalllllllll the way back to the beginning.

3. Finish your tour at "historias y sabores," a liqueor and chocolate factory. You get a short tour and then a free taste of any flavor liqueor and a piece of chocolate, and for just 5 pesos you can get another taste. Then youll be feeling mighty warm and fuzzy inside and all the bike rental places are just like a 5 minute bike ride down the road. Historias and Sabores is located down the road to the left at the first roundabout if you are heading towards Aranda, and to the right at the second roundabout if youre heading from Aranda back to the bike places.

Happy drunken biking!
