If you’re traveling in September, the Septiembre Musical is by far the most important cultural event during the year. This music festival, generally held at the Independencia Square, brings together several local and national artists who perform different musical styles ranging from folk music to rock.
To experience the unique gastronomy of Tucuman, head over to the town of San Pedro de Colalao, where they pride themselves in their cheesemaking process, turning out wheels of “quesillo” named after the town.. Learn about the process, take a tour of a cheesemaking factory, and pick up a couple of wheels to enjoy with some delicious Mendoza wine.
Take advantage of a sunny day to play golf at one of Tucuman’s six top-level golf courses.
Outside of the city visit one of the nearby nature reserves to do some bird-watching and observe more than 360 types of birds in their natural habitat.
Learn about Tucuman’s history and visit one of it’s many archeaological sites dating as far back as 600 AD, bearing witness to the great development of pre-Columbian civilization.

| When to go: |
Tucuman has a subtropical climate with cool winters (Jun-Aug) and warm but not too steamy summers (Dec-Jan). It has only snowed once since the sity was founded, in 1920. Spring and summer are the most ideal times to visit the city, but manageable temperatures and plenty of activities can be had year-round.

How to get there: |
Travelers of every budget have several options for getting to Tucuman from other major cities in Argentina. If time is more of an issue than money, the Benjamín Matienzo International Airport has daily flights to Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Santiago del Estero. For a slower but cheaper option you can travel by bus to and from Tucuman’s enormous bus station from every major city in Argentina. The trip from Buenos Aires takes 15 hours and is best done overnight. Buses offer several classes for the trip at a range of prices. There is also a weekly railway service to the Retiro station in Buenos Aires departing from the Bartolomé Mitre station located near downtown.

Travelers from most countries including the US, UK, Australia, EU citizens, New Zealand, Canada, and Israel do not require a visa to enter Argentina. A 90 day tourist visa will be issued at the airport with a passport. Tourist visas can be renewed for those wishing to stay in Argentina with a quick trip to Uruguay from Buenos Aires. No tourist visa is required of visitors from Israel for stays up to 90 days.

At restaurants it is normal to tip 10%. Taxi drivers do not receive tips but the fare may be rounded up to the nearest peso. Porters can receive a tip of a couple of pesos.
